Last year, we told you all about Maple Walk School – the NW10 based independent school with ‘big ideas’ and over a year on, it would seem they are continuing to excel.

Having caught up with Maple Walk again, it was a pleasure to hear their latest news and about the opportunities available to the students, many of which are provided to help the children gain in confidence and self-esteem.  These opportunities include performing in polished productions – the most recent being ‘Darwin Rocks’ performed by Year 4; whole school poetry competitions and even competing in a National dance competition, which saw the pupils commended for their performances.

In amongst all this, the pupils worked hard in preparation for the 11+ exams and the school are thrilled with the results achieved by all of their Year 6 children.  Some excellent offers were received, including an impressive number of scholarships to a broad range of secondary schools. Offers include St. Pauls Boys, Godolphin and Latymer, Channing, Francis Holland, Latymer Upper and Highgate in the private sector, and Holland Park, Marylebone Boys and QPCS in the comprehensive sector (full list of offers can be seen via here). As a non-selective school, Maple Walk celebrate a diverse range of skill sets and their offers reflect how well their pupils have been nurtured to reach their individual best.

Although academic ability is extremely important to the school, Maple Walk has re-iterated its stance in allowing the children to showcase all of their abilities. As such, they are also extremely proud of the pupils’ work in the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘Take one Picture’ project, which has been selected to exhibit at the Gallery in May.

Sport can also not be overlooked and appears high on their agenda – often played at nearby Roundwood Park.  This year, a number of the children have had the opportunity to be part of the Independent Schools Association Competitions alongside local football, bocci and netball tournaments.  Cross Country is a particular strength, with pupils regularly taking home medals in a range of regional heats.

The schools’ position on ‘whole-school Growth Mindset’ supports an ethos of resilience and this appears to shine through in all they have shown us.

To celebrate this, the school is presenting a free Growth Mindset workshop (Thursday 2nd May) – open to all and aimed at parents and carers of early years and pre-schoolers. The talk will be presented by coach and author Nadim Saad, who will be introducing the concept of a Growth Mindset and how we as parents can foster a ‘can do’ attitude from day one. The next Open Days will be 13th May / 6th June / 17th June (please check availability with school).
