Let’s be honest, most of us don’t get down to the bottom end of Chamberlayne Road, as much as we used to in the days when Paradise was our regular local stomping ground (sob!). So you may have missed Vicki’s – a fantastic new cafe offering the most delicious food, great service (and space for buggies, hooray!).

imageFormerly a long-time greasy spoon, Vicki’s occupies a corner plot where Kilburn Lane becomes Chamberlayne Road, just up from the fab Rise shop. The eponymous owner snapped up the lease when it became available, a brave move, given they were also just about to open up a new spot on Walm Lane in Willesden Green (so those of you in NW2, keep reading as all of this applies to you lucky people too!).

Vicki’s menu can’t fail to satisfy a very wide range of tastes and diets; carb fans and clean eaters are both catered for. In a nod to its previous occupants, you can still grab yourself a bacon, egg and/or sausage sandwich, but we challenge you not to be tempted by the array of freshly made superfood salads and changing daily hot specials, which when we’ve visited have included salsa verde chicken burgers, fish cakes, piri-piri chicken, BBQ pork and sweet potato falafels. Some of these can be turned into our particular favourite – a hot and crispy burrito with sesame coconut rice, raw betroot salad, and house slaw. One of the most original, delicious and satisfying lunches you can find in the area. And pretty damn healthy to boot. Check out their Facebook page, we challenge you not to be salivating at their pics.

imageSo this all sounds great, but you might be wondering how baby/child-friendly it is? Well, whilst there isn’t a kids menu as such, the variety of food on offer means that you’ll almost certainly find something for your (fussy?!) little ones. Staff are very happy to help move furniture around as necessary to accommodate buggies, there are lovely big tables for groups or large families, as well as smaller spots if you’re looking for a spot to enjoy a quiet child-free coffee (haha!). Speaking of which, for those of you avoiding dairy – both soya and coconut milk are available.

So if you’re looking for a new breakfast, brunch or lunch spot in Kensal or Willesden, Vicki’s comes very highly recommended. You can find the two branches at: 43 Kilburn Lane, Kensal Rise & 108 Walm Lane, Willesden Green.
